Brie - a cheese like no other

I know it's been far too long since I blogged about the best kid ever. So first off, she's still the best kid ever. I've just been super busy with my writing and working not to mention having an on again off again relationship with our wi-fi.
The best kid ever is now 16 and her humor is really my undoing at times. LOVE IT!

Yesterday we stopped at Second St. AnAmerican Bistro for lunch before driving her to her friends in Chesapeake for the weekend. We ordered and having a great lunch laughing, joking, tweeting... (Need I say more?)

Sarah orders a ham panini and she asks the server, “Can I get that without the arugula, onions, tomatoes, mustard sauce?” The server asks “So you just want the ham and the cheese?” - Yep.

So now the food arrives and I'm diving into my salad, which is perfect. Yet after a few bites Sarah says, “I forgot I don't like brie.”
I'm like what? And I recall her experimentation a few years back with some brie and indeed she decided she didn't like it. So I ask, “Did you know it came with brie?” She says “Yeah, I saw it said brie but it just didn't register in my brain.”

So through course of all this she didn't want to send it back because she wasn't all that hungry and she had french fries and ketchup to help her get the brie taste out of her mouth. So we begin discussing brie.
I have a close Swedish friend who was a chef and he loves brie. He'd make big slices of it and simply have a brie sandwich. So we talk about that and she's joking that she'd call brie tasteless, but it just sucks all the taste and goodness from all other foods. So now we're really joking around and so I tease her that she thinks it's the black hole of all cheese. Silly I know, but we're having a blast!

So now we're giggling and laughing about it and I'm tweeting and I note Chef Michael Symon is tweeting. (I have his tweets sent to my phone.) So I laugh and say maybe just chefs like brie. Sarah totally agrees with me. Lo and behold I tweet Chef Symon right after I tweet my older daughter.
Sarah checks my phone right after and her eyes grow big and she has this huge grin on her face. She says, “Now mom.... I don't want you to scream or anything.”
I laugh and say, “Don't tell me he tweeted back.” The look on her face said it all. Sure enough Chef Symon tweeted back! So of course he says he loves brie! He's a chef! An Iron Chef at that!

So here's the cute part. We leave the Bistro and for the hour drive to Chesapeake, she has her phone in her right hand and my phone in her left. She wanted to be ready in case he tweeted again. Is that cute or what? I love this kid of mine!

So thank you Chef Symon for making our lunch even better! We will be looking forward to the next Iron Chef America where the secret ingredient is brie and you take down the challenger. However I'm sure you will be grateful my daughter will not be on the panel of judges.

Concerts!

Who knew my kid would be going to one concert after another?? I never did. But she's having a blast! Her best friend Morgan along with her mom love going to rock concerts and the best kid ever... loves to go with them.

This past weekend she saw 9 bands! Caught a drumstick! Came back with a ton of pics of band members and her! Rock and Roll!!

But I have to point out, when she got home she told me everything then did her homework to be ready for school on Monday. -> Best kid ever! That's all I'm sayin!

Meditation w/Sarah

I've been doing a lot of different meditation styles lately, looking for what works for me. Part of this search has led me to “Ah” and “Om” meditation. (Thanks Dr. Dyer!) Anyway, this meditation I have to say the Ah or Om out loud in a long and steady cadence.

Sarah and I were staying in a motel with our cats a few weeks back and well... I told her I needed to do my Om meditation before bed and she had to be very quiet and not disturb me. Well I did it for the twenty minutes and when done she burst out in giggles. I said, “Hey don't make fun of me.” she just giggled and said, “I'm not!” I giggled too.

The next day I didn't get to complete my Ah meditation in the morning and I happened to mention it and she said, “Oh please don't tell me your going to meditate now! Oooooohhhhmmmm... Oooooohhhhmmmm” Sticking her little fingers up in a pincher pose. I laughed of course and said, “Don't make fun of me.” She giggles and says with her fingers pinched up, “I'm not making fun of you, I'm meditating... Oooooohhhhmmmm... Oooooohhhhmmmm...”

Needless to say I'm laughing so hard at her cute teasing of me. She repeats this several times. Then she says, “Oh mom watch this!” Our cat Patches is sitting at the foot of the bed and she says to her, “Patches! Oooooohhhhmmmm” Patches left ear suddenly darts out to the side as she does this long Oooooohhhhmmmm and I crack up laughing. She's giggling and then she says, “Wait wait.. Rameses!” (Our other cat.) “ Oooooohhhhmmmm” to Rameses and he too stuck his left ear straight out.

I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. Then I said, “Hey don't make fun of me!” Although I can't stop laughing and she repeats, “I'm not making fun of you, I'm meditating.. Oooooohhhhmmmm... Oooooohhhhmmmm...”

Of course I shared this with everyone at work! One of the nurse's said he was going to try that on his cat and see if the same thing happened. It was so funny! It was delightful!

Sarah although she was teasing me, it was filled with love and I admit it was a great moment. I was filled with joy at her adorableness and with our cats, who were obviously thinking... “What is wrong with these people?”

Finished Book

Sarah and I have been doing stories back and forth for a few years. We make them up and talk about them while in the car or shopping. It's really a lot of fun. She also is working on her own books and stories.

I'm quite proud of her for finishing one of her stories. It's actually quite good and although my family has had some critical comments after reading, to help her improve it, I am pleased at her talent.

Saturday I sat reading her last revision and I was so pleased to find myself laughing out loud on several parts, because her humor was priceless. I'm also thrilled to see her use her creativity, which I feel is very important to grow. She is very creative and seeing her do this for fun and on the side is fabulous. Her friends love her stories and they beg her for more. To me what greater flattery is a friend begging for more of what you create, it really makes you feel good inside.

I plan to take a yoga class and I asked her to take it with me because she too has wanted to do yoga, it's an interest for both of us. She found out there is a yoga class after school starting in October so she signed up. I'm thrilled she took the initiative to do it on her own!

High School

Sarah has started High School!

It looks like it's going to be a busy year for both of us. She's thrilled that several of her friends are attending the same school and I'm thrilled also to see her blossom this year already. Of course she's getting bold and freaking me out!!! But it's expected, she's almost 15.

Her classes are just like she wanted and she has our driving to school all planned out. She's waking up with less difficulty this year and I'm blessed! We shall see how the sleeping pattern is like in a month when the newness wears off. hehe
